The Tactical Submachine Gun can be found from floor loot and Chests. Its Legendary variant used to be unique, in that it can only be found in one location, being available only from Loot Stars in Starry Suburbs. With Chapter 2 Season 4, The Legendary variants can be obtained from Chests, Floor Loot, Supply Drops, Stark Industries Supply Drones and via Upgrade Benches like the other variants.
The Tactical Submachine Gun almost has all five rarities, but is missing a Common variant.
The Tactical Submachine Gun was Vaulted in the 5.0 Content Update to make room for the addition of the Submachine Gun and because it was too overpowered. In Patch 10.30, the Tactical SMG was unvaulted, replacing the Burst SMG. The Legendary Tactical Submachine Gun was later added in Update 10.40, along with Starry Suburbs, as a weapon that only drops from the stars found there. However, the Tactical Submachine Gun was vaulted again at the beginning of Chapter 2, only being Unvaulted for weeks. It was replaced by the Submachine Gun once again, after replacing it in the 5.0 update.
The Tactical Submachine Gun was unvaulted for 24 hours following the Double Barrel Shotgun for the 14 Days of Summer event. It was the 12th item to be unvaulted for the event. The Tactical Submachine Gun was also unvaulted for 24 hours on both December 24, 2019 and January 5, 2020 for the 14 Days of Fortnite and Winterfest event respectively. Following the Dual Pistols and Hand Cannon, this is the seventh and 19th weapon to be unvaulted for the event, also respectively.
In Patch 13.0, the Headshot Damage Multiplier was Demoted from x2 to x1.75. (Now dealing only 31/33/35/36 instead of 36/38/40/42)
In Patch 14.0, all variants of the Tactical Submachine Gun has been unvaulted, replacing the Submachine Gun. It's fire rate has been decreased from 13 to 9 and magazine size has been decreased to 25. The Tactical SMG also has been given new firing sounds. Even the Legendary variant was unvaulted, despite being exclusive to loot stars in Chapter 1.
The Tactical Submachine Gun has been re-vaulted with Patch 15.00, replaced by the Submachine Gun once again.
While the Tactical Submachine Gun is a close-range weapon, it can be used at mid range. This might be due to its tight spray when aiming down sights.
The Tactical Submachine Gun is best used in close to mid-range combat. However, its magazine size is small, so it has to reload often.
It can be considered a particularly balanced weapon, as with no FSA but a somewhat tight targeting reticle size, it is not advised to spray lead with this weapon. It is generally advised to fire in 4-5 round bursts.
Trivia[]
,This weapon’s Epic variant is available as the SMG-E Nerf blaster in real life.
The Tactical Submachine Gun would’ve been the first all-rarity weapon to use the same model for each rarity, but it wasn’t because it was missing the Common variant.(However despite being separate weapons, one can argue that the Makeshift SMG adds a Proper common variant, with the only difference being it's accuracy.)
The Tactical Submachine Gun’s Legendary variant strangely never made an appearance in the Creative inventory until early Chapter 2.
The Tactical Submachine Gun bears resemblance to a Mat-49 Submachine Gun without a stock and with a Barrel shroud and some extra scrap tossed and built onto that barrel shroud. However, it does bear a few resemblances to the TEC-9 pistol.
It also had some visual similarities to the long-gone Machine Pistol, which also looked like a TEC-9.
Despite it being a Submachine Gun, the Tactical Submachine Gun is closely similar to a pistol. This is because the weapon is held like one.
The Machine Pistol (which was the original SMG) shared this feature with the Tactical Submachine Gun.
This was the fifth item to head into the Vault after the Crossbow.
The Tactical Submachine Gun was seen on one of the monitors in a Loot Lake government facility. It also appeared inside one of the crystals in the In-Between during the Unvaulting event. However it was not unvaulted, and the Drum Gun was instead.
In the Season X trailer, a Legendary Tactical SMG was shown. The Tactical SMG was unvaulted later in the season, but only in its former three rarities. In the 10.40 patch, Starry Suburbs was added to the map and said that the stars contained great loot, including a never-before-seen weapon. It turned out to be a Legendary Tactical SMG.
Tactical SMG is the 2nd SMG to have a Legendary variant, while the first was the Compact SMG.
Before Season 4 Chapter 2, the Legendary Tactical Submachine Gun had the highest Damage per Second (DPS) of all the weapons in the game. It had 273 DPS compared to the LegendaryRapid Fire SMG's 255.
This is the only SMG in-game to be available in 4 variants. This gave it the most variants of any SMG until the Submachine Gun got streamlined in Chapter 2. (When a weapon gets streamlined, it gets modified to use all rarities.)
