Category | Battle Royale Weapons |
History | |
Introduced | Patch 1.6 |
Last Adjustment | Patch 15.00 |
Vaulted | Patch 16.00 |
The Tactical Shotgun is a Shotgun in Battle Royale that is available in Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary variants. It uses Shells and has a headshot multiplier of x1.5 (deals 108/114/120/126/132 damage to the head). It Used To Do (142/150/158/166/174). It is fully automatic and fires faster than the Pump Shotgun and Charge Shotgun but slower than the Combat Shotgun, Double Barrel Shotgun and Drum Shotgun.
The Tactical Shotgun used to be available in Uncommon, Rare, and Epic variants, but the following Patch 3.3, it was demoted to Common, Uncommon, and Rare. In Patch 9.40, the Epic variant was unvaulted with a new look and a Legendary variant was added.
All of the Tactical Shotgun's rarities can be found from Floor Loot. The Uncommon - Legendary variants can be found from chests, the Rare variant can be found from Fishing, and its Epic and Legendary variants can be found from Supply Drops, Rare Chests, and Fishing. The Common variant can be found from Heavy Marauders, Floor Loot, and sometimes fishing in plain water.
In Patch 13.0, the Tactical Shotgun has received its biggest nerf, headshot multiplier went from x2.0 to x1.5, and damages decreased by 4. This made it one of weakest legendary shotguns.
In Patch 14.0, the Tactical Shotgun was vaulted for the 1st time, and was replaced by the Combat Shotgun. It is because the Tactical Shotgun was too weak after the weapon nerf in Patch 13.0.
In Patch 15.0, the Tactical Shotgun was unvaulted and buffed. It's Damage was increased to 72/76/80/84/88, making the Common and Uncommon rarities almost equal to the Heavy Shotgun. And The Rare Tactical Shotgun Does 3 More Than The Legendary Heavy Shotgun.
The Tactical Shotgun was banished to the vault for the second time in Patch 16.00, replaced by the Pump Shotgun and to make room for the brand new Primal Shotgun and Makeshift Shotgun

Strategy[]
- The Tactical shotgun is a forgiving shotgun with its wide spread and high fire rate, which makes it forgiving to terrible shots.
- The Tactical Shotgun is a useful weapon to suppress the target at close ranges. Although it does rather low damage per shot compared to other shotguns, the fire rate is quick and can be used to damage the target quickly.
- Even with a Common Tactical Shotgun, headshots can be near deadly for non-shielded players.
- The Tactical Shotgun's effectiveness, although with a large 8-round clip and 1.5 fire rate, isn't the best in the headshot stakes, although it does outdo the Epic Pump Shotgun. The key to winning a Pump vs. Tactical battle is to fire first to deal some damage to the enemy, hopefully dealing enough damage for the next to be a one-shot. However, if the scenario above is what happens. it is safe for the Pump user to fire a point-blank headshot and still be at 10 hitpoints before death. Therefore, the best strategy is to first headshot someone for maximum damage, then pull out whatever secondary lies in the inventory to finish them off, and repeat should combining the Shotgun + Secondary not be effective enough to do the enemy in first time.
- Despite having the fourth-fastest fire rate of all shotguns (behind the Combat, Double Barrel and Drum Shotguns), it has the longest reload time of all shotguns, for a full reload of 0-8 bullets. The Rare Combat Shotgun is the second slowest.
Tactical Shotguns over Pump Shotguns[]
- Chapter 2 Season 2: Some players chose Tactical Shotguns over Pump Shotgun, as the Pump Shotgun's damage wasn't consistent (You could hit for 33 with a Legendary Pump Shotgun), they have a slower firerate, it's harder to hit opponents for some players and the Pump Shotgun nerf in Chapter 2 Season 1 (90/95/100/105/110 to 70/80/90/100/110) greatly reduced it's damage and overall effectiveness, whereas Tactical Shotguns are more consistent, and deal more headshot damage at lower rarities than Pump Shotguns of the same rarity and have a much quicker fire rate, leading to a higher DPS and more chances to deal damage before an enemy can build. Plus, Pump Shotguns have a magazine size of 5 and Tactical Shotguns have a magazine size of 8, making Tactical Shotguns getting preferred over Pump Shotguns by some players. * On the contrary, the Rare, Epic and Legendary rarities begin to deal more headshot damage and have a much more damaging body damage (90/100/110, headshot 180/200/220), with the highest two rarities guaranteeing an instant elimination with a full pellet headshot and an easily shield breaking amount of damage for a full body shot. *** However, the Rare version won't guarantee a full shield crack or instant elimination with full pellets on body and head respectively, yet can still do enough damage to turn the tides in a battle. Even so, a Tactical Shotgun of the same rarity would still be arguably more effective, but would still use the same amount of shells to eliminate someone, with a headshot and any other shot on full or most pellets. * '''Chapter 2 Season 3:''' This was changed when the Tactical Shotgun (Battle Royale)|Tactical Shotguns]] were nerfed by 4 damage and they were like Pump Shotguns, they could even hit 30 for a headshot(x1.5) close range because of the Chapter 2 Season 3 weapon headshot multiplier nerfs. Since then, Charge Shotguns were better than Tactical Shotguns.
In Chapter 2 season 4 the pump returned, but the Tactical Shotgun had finally been vaulted
Charge Shotguns over Tactical Shotguns[]
- Chapter 2 Season 3: Most of the player base chooses Charge Shotguns over Tactical Shotguns, as the Tactical Shotgun is very weak (unlike C2S2). It has a worse headshot damage then before (x2 > x1.5), weaker damage (71, 75, 79, 83, 87 > 68, 71, 75, 79, 83) and the damage isn't consistent enough to hit good damages.
- The Charge Shotgun though, like the Combat Shotgun, was hated by the community at the start of the season since it replaced the Pump Shotgun. Then the community discovered it was very good. The Charge Shotgun can sometimes be hard to hit shots, but if you manage hit someone with your Charge Shotgun then spray them with an SMG, you are guaranteed to win a fight.

Trivia[]
- The Common Tactical Shotgun does just 2 more damage than the Common Pump Shotgun, even though Pump Shotguns are supposed to be slow but stronger than Tactical Shotguns.
- However, this is likely because the Tactical increases by 4 damage per rarity, Pump does for 10.
- The Common, Uncommon and Rare variants of the Tactical Shotgun appear to be a red version of the Save the World guns Enforcer and Longarm Enforcer.
- In Patch 3.3, the rarities of all Tactical Shotguns were changed from Uncommon, Rare and Epic to Common, Uncommon and Rare, and in patch 9.40, Epic and Legendary variants were added.
- Although the Heavy and Double Barrel Shotguns are semi-automatic, the Tactical Shotgun has the fastest firing rate, despite being a pump-action shotgun until Patch 9.00.
- The Tactical Shotgun has a small panel that seems to be playing Snake on its screen.
- The side of the gun reads "Bossmerg 12", a play of the word Mossberg, a real-life weapons manufacturer. "12" means it is chambered for 12-gauge shotgun cartridges.
- The Common, Uncommon, and Rare Tactical Shotgun appears to be a heavily modified Mossberg Maverick 88. However, it bears more resemblance to a painted Kel-Tec KS-7. However, it also seems to be the same Tactical Shotgun as in Save The World, but with some added features on top. This would also apply to the Enforcer.
- The Tactical Shotgun was the only Shotgun in Battle Royale that hasn't been vaulted once, but since the Tactical Shotgun was vaulted on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 4, the Charge Shotgun is now the only shotgun that hasn't been vaulted once.
- Before the initial release of Battle Royale, The Tactical Shotgun was originally named "Semi-Auto Shotgun".
- The Tactical Shotgun is the fifth weapon to be an all-rarity weapon.
- This is also the first time since Patch 3.3, a rarity of a weapon returns, but unlike before it is in a new model and with new statistics.
- The Epic and Legendary variants of the Tactical Shotgun appear to be a modified M1014. This was also the first Tac Shotgun to be able to near-oneshot people with 200 HP before its headshot multiplier was reduced, clocking in at a whopping 195 hitpoints of headshot damage at point-blank, then 174 HP after the reduction. In Patch 13.0, it was nerfed yet again, which made the maximum headshot damage 124.
- The Epic and Legendary variants of the Tactical Shotgun used the same pullout weapon sound as the Suppressed Sniper Rifle. It has its own pullout sound since Chapter 1 Season 10.
- This is the first shotgun (the second is the Drum Shotgun) in Fortnite that can be shot automatically – that is, by pressing the trigger button and holding it there. However, if one is observant at the recoil animation of the shotgun, it can be noticed the weapon doesn't fire automatically - it just gets pumped quickly and then fired while pressing the trigger. This perhaps is the reason for it being named the Semi-Automatic Shotgun right before B.R.'s release.
- Despite many players assuming the Rare Tactical Shotgun has a faster Pull-out time than the Epic and Legendary, its real pull-out time is 0.500. The Legendary is 0.485.
- The philosophy behind the Pull-out impression is due to its sound. While the Lower end Tactical Shotguns pull-out sound starts almost Immediately after selecting it, the higher end has this sound closer to the end of its pull-out and thus why players assume that the Rare variant is faster than the Legendary Variant.
- Despite the Legendary variant dealing 83 damage, it still does less damage than a Common charged Charge Shotgun.
- Usually players tend to say that the Tactical Shotgun has more or less range than the Pump Shotgun and Charge Shotgun. In reality this three shotguns have the same maximum range of 6 tiles.
- But what changes is the damage falloff, where the Tactical Shotgun's one, together with the Charge Shotgun, starts at a distance of 1.50 tiles, while the Pump Shotgun from 1.25 tiles.
