Smoke Grenade was an Uncommon explosive weapon in Battle Royale. It could be thrown to create a smoke cloud in an area, obscuring enemies' vision, making it useful for retreats. The Smoke Grenade was Vaulted in Patch 3.3 due to lack of use by players, making it only available on Playground and Sneaky Silencers. It was the third item to be Vaulted after the Zapotron and Submachine Gun. The reason why the Smoke Grenade was vaulted because it was pretty much a useless item and people would use this item to troll.

On Day 10 in the 14 Days of Fortnite limited time event (December 28th, 2018), the item was re-released into the Sneaky Silencers LTM, albeit with slightly tweaked mechanics; the smoke is more obtrusive to those within the cloud, and they also detonate on impact like their spiritual successors, the Stink Bomb and also on January 2nd, Smoke Grenade was brought back for the Unvaulted LTM. On patch 7.20 Smoke Grenade was added into Creative mode.
