Harvesting is done with the help of a tool, like a Pickaxe and in pressing key 1. It's absolutely necessary to collect the needed resources to build a Fort. Although there are also other axes in the game, which can be found under Melee Weapons, only the right tools will cause the wanted damage to harvest material from the objects in the world of Fortnite.
