The Double Barrel Shotgun is a shotgun in Fortnite Battle Royale. It is available in Epic and Legendary variants. It uses Shells 'n' Slugs. The shotgun yields very high damage at close range, but has the drawback of a large spread, fast reload time, and very low range. The Double Barrel Shotgun was introduced in Patch 5.20 and vaulted in Patch 7.00, because filled a similar role to the Epic and Legendary Pump Shotgun and to reduce the number of shotguns in the loot pool. The Double Barrel Shotgun made an appearance for 24 hours during the 14 Days of Summer event on July 5th after the unvaulting of the Bottle Rockets, and then being unvaulted permanently in Patch 10.00 Content Update, but was only available in Tilted Town. With the removal of Tilted Town in the Batman Update, the Double Barrel Shotgun has been added back to the vault. It has a 1.3x headshot multiplier, a reload time of over 2.5 seconds, and a 2-second cooldown timer when switching to other shotguns.

The Double Barrel Shotgun has been unvaulted once again for 24 hours on December 18, 2019 for the Winterfest event. It was the first weapon to be unvaulted for the Winterfest event.

Strategy[]

  • It is best to use this shotgun at close quarters, where you can fire two shots at your opponent, hopefully eliminating them.
  • When using the Double Barrel Shotgun, try to get close to your target. Don't use this gun as a short-medium range weapon, as the damage dropoff is significant.
  • Try to aim for the head. This maximizes your chances of getting the elimination.
  • If you are unable to eliminate the enemy in 2 shots you should build some walls between you and your enemy, then build above them. Reload and shoot them.

Trivia[]

  • The Double Barrel Shotgun bears resemblance to a sawed-off shotgun with double barrels, which may be why its bullet spread is very wide, considering that sawing off a shotgun greatly diminishes its range.
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun appears to most specifically be based on a Stevens 311 Double barrel shotgun (sawed-off, of course)
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun was added as an official "Double Pump" as it was one gun with double the firepower but with balance for decent gameplay, this sadly was not in favor as it was slow to reload (2.7 seconds) and had the shortest range of any shotgun.
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun has the same maximum range as the Dragon's Breath Shotgun, of 3.5 Tiles.
    • However, what changes between this two is the damage Fall off where the Double Barrel Shotgun is 1.0 tiles less. (0.50 tiles vs 1.50 tiles).
    • In fact the Double Barrel Shotgun has the highest Damage Fall off for shotguns.
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun has a different bullet impact sound than the other shotguns, the same impact sound as some other weapons such as the Minigun, Compact SMG, Scoped Assault Rifle, Dual Pistols, etc.
    • This only applies to metal. Wood and stone bullet impact sounds are the same as other shotguns.
  • The Double Barrel Shotgun currently holds the second highest damage and DPS for shotguns as of C2S6 (however, the original DPS on the Double Barrel Shotgun still holds the best DPS of all shotguns). It also had max damage of 187 before Season 6 nerfed the damage.
  • The Double-Barrel Shotgun can also be referred to as the Sawn-Off Shotgun, since the weapon's barrels are clearly shorter than 18 inches, or 45cm. The Pump Shotgun would have the barrel at least 18in long, looking at the design of the weapon.
  • The Double-Barrel can be considered Fortnite's equivalent of Doom's Super Shotgun, as no enemies can stand up to a full-frontal blast, full health and shield if used right.
  • In season 5, the Legendary variant (With 150 damage per shot) was the fastest weapon in Fortnite history with 285 DPS.
