Assault Weapon: Fully Automatic. Flexible assault rifle capable of handling medium range combat scenarios. High rate of fire with solid accuracy when aiming down sights and firing in controlled bursts.
This article is about the Assault Rifle crafted with Mechanical Parts. For the Assault Rifle commonly found on the Island, see Makeshift Rifle. For the Assault Rifle crafted with Animal Bones, see Primal Rifle.
The Assault Rifle (referred to as AR and SCAR in the community) is an Assault Rifle available in Battle Royale. It has a headshot multiplier of x1.5 (doing 45/46/49/52/54/55 damage depending on it's rarity), and uses Medium Bullets. It is available in Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary variants, with the Common and Mythic variant being vaulted.
Five rarities of the Assault Rifle can be found from floor loot. The Uncommon to Legendary variants can be found from Chests, the Common can be rarely found by fishing in plain water, the Rare, Epic & Legendary variants can be found in fishing spots, and the Epic, and Legendary variants can also be found in Rare Chests and Supply Drops.
In Chapter 2, Season 6, the four rarities can be very rarely found from floor loot, Chests, and Supply Drops(Epic and Legendary Only) due to Makeshift Rifles and Primal Rifles replacing most of the weapons. The Assault Rifle can also be obtained via crafting, with a Makeshift Rifle and 4 Mechanical Parts.
In Patch 12.00, a new Mythic variant, Skye's Assault Rifle, was added for the duration of Chapter 2, Season 2. Along with Skye's Grappler, it can only be obtained by defeating Skye at The Shark, and only one will drop in a game. It is a custom upgraded variant of the Legendary Assault Rifle both aesthetically and functionally, it deals 1 more point of damage and fires 9% faster at 6 bullets/second as opposed to 5.5.
The Assault Rifle is a hitscan weapon, with First Shot Accuracy enabled. The average time it takes for FSA to reset is estimated at 350 milliseconds for single shots. While its draw speed is 250 milliseconds for all rarities.
Damage Fall-Off :
Damage falloff begins at 50 meters (10 tiles).
Damage steadily decreases down to 80% of its maximum (24 / 24.8 / 26.4 / 28 / 28.8 / 29.6) at 75 meters (15 tiles).
Damage reaches its minimum value of 2/3rds of its maximum (20 / 20.7 / 22 / 23.3 / 24 / 24.7) at 100 meters (20 tiles).
The Assault Rifle is a solid choice for every player's arsenal, as it has good damage and great range, allowing for ideal performance in mid-range engagements.
Along longer sightlines, firing in bursts or tap-firing single shots can improve your overall effectiveness, as consistent fire can make the weapon's degree of spread severe, especially when paired with strafing. Crouching can up performance in situations that warrant sustained automatic fire.
The Assault Rifle can function acceptably at close range thanks to its noteworthy blend of damage, fire rate, and ease of use, though it does not possess the sheer burst damage potential of a Shotgun or Revolver, and lacks the raw DPS of an SMG or Minigun. Its hipfire accuracy is also slightly below average in comparison to the other weapons, perhaps with the exceptions of the Double Barrel Shotgun and Drum Shotgun.
The Epic, Legendary and Mythic variants of the Assault Rifle are capable of eliminating an opponent in one less bullet than the lower tier versions, whether unshielded or with full Shield. The Rare variant and higher shaves off a single shot less from the kill requirement within its reach on targets with 125 HP total (as is common with the 75 HP limit of Bandages and the 50 Shield limit of Small Shield Potions) or full health and a Small Shield Potion, and the Epic rarity and higher removes a shot to eliminate on targets with 175 HP total.
The Assault Rifle is one of the best bullet weapons for destroying enemy builds. Not only is its generous 30-round magazine ideal for sustained fire, allowing 5.28 seconds of pumping lead down range, its damage to structures remains static at all ranges. Every rarity can take out a wood wall in just five shots, and, depending on the rarity, other structures and edits may take even less.
It is not wise to challenge players wielding Sniper Rifles, as they can instantly eliminate you in a single well-placed shot while you're attempting to whittle away at their health one shot at a time. Instead, place some structures between you and them and attempt to get closer with a few ramps.
* = Vaulted/Unreleased rarity/rarities during that time
The Common, Uncommon, and Rare rarities of the Assault Rifle are based on a standard AR-15 platform rifle (likely an M4A1 Carbine), and the Epic, Legendary, and Mythic rarities of the Assault Rifle are based on the FN SCAR-L assault rifle.
Prior to v11.00, the front sight on the Common, Uncommon, and Rare rarities of the Assault Rifle was fitted on the barrel backwards.
It was the first weapon to be available in all 5 standard rarities, and also the first weapon to have appearances dependent on rarity.
